“Why prices on sugar, oil and salt have increased”
The Labor party has accused the government of artificially increasing the prices of sugar, salt and oil, according to Akhali Taoba.
Party leader Shalva Natelashvili has called on President Mikheil Saakashvili to cap prices and remove customs taxes, suggesting that people could face starvation unless action is taken.
On October 17 Natelashvili discussed the issue at a press conference, suggesting that price increases were in the authorities’ interests.
“They want to rob the population to the end and this condition is artificially created,” he claimed.
“This is another tragedy when the cost of primary consumer goods doubles. If the president and the authorities do not take effective steps forward to improve the situation, the people will not wait until the November 2 protest, they will come out into the streets earlier,” Natelashvili warned.

“Cooperation to be enhanced between Georgian and Polish Ministries of Justice”
First deputy Minister of Justice Tina Burjaliani met with a delegation of Polish officials led by Jacob Skiba, the prime minister’s chancellery head, on October 16, writes Rezonansi.
The Polish delegation consisted of representatives of various Polish government institutions, including the head of administration of the Polish Justice Ministry, Tomas Bulova, and arrived in Tbilisi on October 14 to discuss enhancing cooperation between Polish and Georgian government institutions.
During the meeting Bulova talked about the role and function of the Justice Ministry in his country.
Tina Burjaliani, commented that it was useful to share the experience of her Polish colleagues and expressed hope that cooperation in the future would be productive.

“Opposition to meet with teachers”
The United National Council plans to meet with Georgian teachers today, October 18, according to Akhali Taoba.
At a briefing in front of parliament on October 16, opposition MP Gia Tortladze said the meeting would take place at the Chess Palace.
“We want to listen to the best level of society—to teachers, and we what to share our problems with them as well. Thus we call all teachers of secondary schools, institutes and universities to come to this meeting,” Tortladze announced.
People’s Party leader Koba Davitashvili addressed the teachers who lost their jobs at the time of the Rose Revolution.
“We need you, we need your intellect, experience and we hope you will return to your jobs so you can share your professionalism with future generations,” he said.

“Four new embassies to open next year”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to open four new embassies in 2008, writes Sakartvelos Respublika.
According to deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kakha Chikovani, new embassies will be opened in Latvia, Estonia, Dubai and Japan, along with a new consulate in St Petersburg.
On October 16, chair of the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee Kote Gabashvili addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the subject of finding appropriate buildings for the planned embassies.
“It is important that the new embassies have their own buildings as opposed to renting. It is noteworthy that only in Germany and Turkey are the Georgian embassies not rented,” Gabashvili commented
