“Nursery school reopens”
Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava opened the newly rehabilitated nursery school No. 1 in Gldani-Nadzaladevi district on October 26, Sakartvelos Respublika reports.
The sewerage and heating systems were overhauled in the course of the repairs. New lights were also installed, and a design was drawn up for a new garden.
Ugulava, as part of the president’s one-off assistance program now underway, gave out GEL 100 utilities vouchers to every school employee.

“Opposition meets with the US ambassador”
Members of the opposition coalition are continuing their meetings with foreign ambassadors. On October 26, Rezonansi reports, they met with US Ambassador to Georgia John Tefft.
Goga Khaindrava, of the NGO Equality Institute and a former state minister for conflict resolution, said the opposition representatives outlined their opinion of the country’s current political situation, and where it could go from here.

“Kurashvili appointed on the new post”
The Defense Ministry appointed Brigadier General Mamuka Kurashvili, formerly the commander of the Georgian peacekeeper forces in South Osseteia, to the post of Chief of Staff of Peacekeeping Operations of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, according to Akhali Taoba.
He will be in charge of Georgian peacekeeping forces throughout the country and its conflict zones.
President Mikheil Saakashvili promoted Kurashvili to the rank of Brigadier General in May 2007.

“Financial institutes to be created in Tskhinvali region”
Sakartvelos Respublika reports on the fourth session of the commission to define the legal status of South Ossetia. The session, led by Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli, was held the Georgian-controlled conflict zone village of Tamarasheni on October 26.
The session focused on economic development projects slated for the area, the newspaper writes.
Noghaideli said that in the beginning of next year, a treasury and revenues service will be created in the region, analogous to similar entities in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
Session attendees included State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Giorgi Baramidze, State Minister for Conflict Resolution Davit Bakradze and Minister of Education and Science Kakha Lomaia.
The next session is scheduled for Tbilisi.
