Saakashvili promises return of South Ossetia “within months” if re-elected

In a speech on December 4, Mikheil Saakashvili promised that the separatist regime in Georgia’s breakaway region of South Ossetia would be dislodged “within a matter of months” if he is re-elected in January. (more)

Tbilisi won’t look to Russia for election monitors

Georgia won’t be inviting Russian observers to monitor the upcoming January 5 presidential elections on the grounds that they would not be objective, acting President Nino Burjanadze told the Moscow daily Vremya Novostei on December 3. (more)
