Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR plans to open 20 more gas stations in Georgia, with at least three expected to open in March, as part of the expansion of its daughter company, SOCAR Georgia.

SOCAR is aiming to become a significant player in the region and is investing heavily in both Turkey and Georgia, as well as a number of other countries. In 2007, according to the news agency Regnum, SOCAR exported close to 8 million tons of oil and produced 5 billion cubic meters of gas.
