Iranian gas could be pumped through the planned Nabucco pipeline, according to Reinhard Mitschek, managing director of Nabucco Gas Pipeline International Ltd., the consortium leading the project.

Mitschek was talking at a press conference in Ankara, Turkey. He said that despite protest from the US, the project would use Iranian gas if demand in Europe requires it.

The Nabucco pipeline plans to take Central Asian and Middle Eastern gas to Europe and is scheduled to make its first gas deliveries to Austria in 2013.
