On March 26 Kazakhstan’s lower legislative chamber, the Mazhilis, approved a draft law on transporting Kazakhstani oil across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, where it will be pumped through the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline.

It proposes the construction of a pipeline between the Kazakstani towns of Eskene and Kuryk, and the rehabilitation of Kuryk port where oil tankers will depart for Azerbaijan.

The law will now be considered by Kazakhstan’s Senate.
