“Three youths attacked the Christian Democratic Movement’s office”

Akhali Taoba reports that on April 9, three drunken youths attacked an office belonging to the Christian Democratic Movement.

Party representatives identified the three as ruling party supporters.

“The public has seen all of them on TV talk shows very frequently. They used to be among the administration’s supporters. They insulted our movement’s members. We asked the youths to leave our office several times, as they were drunk and we wanted to avoid provocations. But they became very aggressive and attempted to start a fight,” a statement from the party said.

Party workers had to call in the police.

“Cost of bread, fuel and transportation increase in Abkhazia”

The Abkhaz separatist authorities are raising the prices on bread, fuel and transportation as of April 21, according to Rezonansi.

Abkhaz de facto economic development minister Kristian Ozgan said the administration was forced to hike prices after wheat and fuel import costs climbed.

The breakaway region’s wheat is primarily imported from Russia’s Krasnodar region, and its fuel from Romania, according to the newspaper.

From April 21, 600 grams of wheat bread in Abkhazia will cost RUB 13 (about GEL 0.78).

The highest quality bread previously cost RUB 8.5 in Abkhazia.

Abkhazia residents will also have to pay RUB 20 for a liter of regular quality petrol, the newspaper reports.

“100 people donated blood at the Tbilisi State University clinic”

Tbilisi Deputy Mayor Zurab Arsoshvili donated blood at the Tbilisi State University medical clinic on April 9, Akhali Taoba reports.

More than 100 people joined the government blood donation campaign, which was called, “Our Healthy Blood for Georgia’s Future.”

“Recently, it has been frequently announced that either children or adults need blood. Tbilisi City Hall and Mtatsminda district [ruling party officials] decided to donate blood. Those who are in need of blood transfusions should know that we are always beside them,” Arsoshvili said.

Chair of the parliamentary healthcare and social affairs committee Gigi Tsereteli was among the donors. He called on other citizens to donate.

“Hundreds of our citizens need blood transfusions each day, but they come across problems, as there is a lack of blood in the country. We are creating a safe blood [donation] system but to save many lives it is important to donate blood,” Tsereteli said.
