The amount of domestic waste per person in Georgia is increasing by four to six percent each year, according to the environmental NGO Green Initiative.

Over the past ten years the figure has doubled from around 0.7 kilograms of waste per person per day to around 1.3 kilograms, says Green Initiative.

It also says that landfill sites do not meet environmental safety requirements, with many being located on river banks and run off contaminating water supplies, the newspaper Akhali Taoba reports.
