“About 40 employees were dismissed from Gurjaani Cultural Center”

Akhali Taoba reports that employees of a regional state-sponsored cultural center have been dismissed in disputed circumstances:

“According to the NGO Human Rights Center, the staff of Gurjaani Cultural Center are not being allowed enter the premises. This is on the order of director of the center Giorgi Getiashvili.

The [Cultural Center] administration said the staff had been dismissed because their employment contracts had ended.

Speaking to a Human Rights Center representative Getiashvili said that the head of Gurjaani municipality Kakhaber Labuchidze had ordered him to stop staff entering the premises.

It is also worth mentioning that a mass dismissal happened in Gurjaani recently. On July 1 more than 100 teachers were dismissed from Gurjaani music school.”



“Who will be Mze’s director?”

Rezonansi speculates on the future of Mze TV:

“After June 26 news programs on Mze stopped. There is a lot of speculation around the TV channel. According to director general of Mze Aleko Parulava the channel will be an entertainment channel, but he did not say when this would happen.

According to some reports Mze will have a new director general, former chief of GPB [Georgian Public Broadcaster] Zaza Shengelia, but both Shengelia and Parulava deny this.”



“Candidacy of Levan Bezashvili is discussed as a head of Justice Ministry and Prosecutor General’s Office after merger”

Akhali Taoba speculates on an upcoming cabinet shuffle:

“Following the merger of the Justice Ministry and Prosecutor General’s Office, Levan Bezhashvili is tipped for the new post. Along with Bezashvili another candidate is Nika Gvaramia, the current justice minister.

As for the merger of these two bodies, the president’s parliamentary secretary Zaza Dekanosidze confirmed this and said that changes will be made in the fall.

According to unofficial information Vano Merabishvili will become chief of the National Security Council and Irakli Alasania, Georgian ambassador to the UN, will replace Merabishvili.

As for the ambassadorship to the UN, current chief of National Security Council Kakha Lomaia will replace Alasania.”
