“Georgian side is accused of kidnapping”

South Ossetian separatists claim a 14-year-old was captured by Georgian security forces, Sakartvelos Respublika reports. They later confirmed the boy’s release, but without details on his alleged abduction:

“Separatist South Ossetia’s press center has released information about the disappearance of a 14-year-old boy from Tskhinvali. According to them, the de facto ministry of internal affairs says that Andrey Petrochenko was arrested by Georgian forces.

Information about his disappearance was released on July 8. His mother Marina Plieva claims that in the evening at about 9 p.m. Andrey was seen in Tskhinvali’s suburb on a bicycle, after which he disappeared.

According the South Ossetian press office, the police have no information about the boy’s whereabouts, they say that he moved toward the Georgian border and then disappeared.

‘Andrey Petrochenko has been detained by Georgian forces, but the reason for this is not known yet,’ the press center said, citing information from the de facto interior ministry.”

“GPB forbids airing of movie”

Sakartvelos Respublika reports that the state-funded Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) will not broadcast a documentary on the May parliamentary elections made by the United Opposition until it is approved by the Central Election Commission:

“The GPB has refused to show a film by the United Opposition about election day, New Rights member Manana Nachkebia has said.

According to her, the supervisory board of the GPB watched the film, entitled ‘Action, not Words’ and requested that the TV station director broadcast it.

But a few days ago the opposition received an answer from the broadcaster: the GPB wants to give impartial and correct information to society, so the film should be sent to the CEC [Central Election Commission] and if the CEC decides this film can be shown publicly, they will show it.

‘Changing Radio Imedi’s directors, pressure on Kavkasia TV, the events that happened at Imedi TV—are all attempts by the authorities to return us to those years when everything was controlled by the government,’ Nachkebia said.”

“Baghaturia worries about Gamsakhurdia’s party most of all”

Akhali Taoba writes on comments from an opposition leader on a bill to deprive the United Opposition, whose members renounced their MP status, of state financing:

“Kartuli Dasi movement leader Jondi Baghaturia protests the ruling majority’s decision to stop opposition parties from receiving financing from the state budget.

He said he finds himself obliged to defend his former allies’ interests in parliament.

Most of all his concerned about Konstantine Gamsakhurdia’s party’s financial condition and thinks that it is direct pressure on the family of an ex-president of Georgia.”
