Georgian experts have often expressed their concern about Russian capital entering Georgia and buying up important elements of the Georgian economy.

Gia Khukhashvili thinks that no matter if Russian armed forces stay here or not, economically Georgia is in Russian hands. The Vice-Premier of Georgia Giorgi Baramidze, however, has stated that Georgia is not going to nationalize the assets of Russian investors. According to him the country is open to Russian investments in the hydro energy sector in particular.

So far the largest Russian players on the Georgian market are INTER RAO, EES ELECTRICITY GENERATING AND DISTRIBUTING COMPANY, VIMPELCOM –GEORGIA communications and VTB GEORGIA bank.
