Georgian businesses suffer unequally

The Russian aggression was a big blow to Georgian business, but the losses received as a result of it fell rather unevenly.

The banking system appears to have resisted the negative influences most successfully. Agriculture also proved more or less stable. Construction, which partly relies on imports, survived by using stored materials. But restaurants and gambling houses were the most affected by the Russian action. Today business there is still rather slow.

Many hopes have been pinned on the promises made by Western countries and international institutions to assist Georgia. But the Russian threat and its continuation could still create economic disruption in different ways.
