Georgians reluctant to buy Russian products

Tuesday, September 9
Despite the Russian aggression the Georgian Government has not discriminated against Russian companies and businesses active in Georgia, however the Georgian population has stated to resist buying Russian products.

The Rezonansi newspaper has carried out a poll to determine whether the population was avoiding buying Russian products. Half of the respondents said that they were trying not to buy anything made in Russia. Shopkeepers have confirmed this tendency.

This protest affects not only Russian made goods. Some segments of the population have stopped buying Russian newspapers or watching Russian TV and are trying to avoid speaking Russian. Some schoolchildren are refusing to learn Russian at school.

The August aggression has further increased the political gap between Georgia and Russia. Obviously this will sooner or later influence economic links between the two countries.
