Georgia to take advantage of new markets

For Georgia the traditional Russian market is closed for an indefinite period. This is yet another result of the Russian aggression, but we should remember that Moscow triggered an economic blockade much earlier than it launched its military assault against Georgia.

However, the Russian embargo has given Georgia a unique opportunity to enter the EU and American markets under very favourable conditions. These markets are much bigger than Russia’s, but so far Georgia has almost no products which can comply with quality demanded by these markets.

Now Georgia has to meet serious challenges. It has very favourable momentum to increase its business potential, attract investment and develop the country’s welfare. New rules of the game should be devised urgently, modern technologies should be introduced, quality control standards should be applied, and the Government should adjust its prevailing economic policy to meet the new demands of the altered market.
