Commemoration of forced deportations

Thursday, October 9
On October 8 1941, on Stalin’s order, Germans whose forebears had been living in Georgia for nearly century and a half were deported to Siberia and Central Asia.

A ceremony commemorating this tragedy was held on October 8 in Tbilisi, in der Versohnungskirche (Church of Reconciliation). The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Harry Augst, President of “Einung,” the Association of Georgian Germans, and Pastor Hans-Joachim Kiderlen.
