Wheat deficit is not expected in Georgia

Monday, November 3
According to the Georgian Agriculture Ministry, the world price of wheat will be unstable, but this will not have any affect on Georgia, because the country already has the necessary reserves of wheat – 74,005 tonnes, enough for about 3 months.

Georgia is a wheat importer, and therefore dependent on wheat exporting countries and international prices. This year most of the wheat-producing countries had a good harvest, consequently, the wheat price has decreased by 2.3 GEL. If on September 15 one sack of flour cost 46-47 GEL, by October its price had decreased to 43-44 GEL. The price of one tonne of imported wheat is USD 320-340.

Georgia consumes 750-800 thousand tonnes of wheat annually. 80% of this wheat is imported.
