Member of the Armenian Parliament Shirak Torosian has stated that Georgia’s drive towards NATO makes it the most destabilizing force in the region.

The Armenian MP thinks that Georgia’s NATO membership is against Russian as well as Turkish interests. Turkey does not want anyone in the region to be NATO member. If Georgia becomes alliance member, NATO will directly border Russia.

Georgia’s NATO membership would fuel separatist movements in the north Caucasus region of Russia. Shirak Torosian further added that Russia is prepared to take the utmost measures against Tbilisi. The MP does not exclude that if Georgia continues to move towards NATO this would create extra tension between the two countries.

Torosian is a leader of the Javakh Party.
