Kazakh plans for Ceyhan and Batumi refineries

KazMunai Gas President Kairgeldi Kabildin has stated that Kazakhstan has frozen its oil refinery building projects in Ceyhan, Turkey and Batumi, Georgia.

Kabildin explained that due to the financial crisis company was identifying new priorities of where to invest. He thinks that the priority now for Kazakhstan is to increase the capacity of three oil refineries already functioning in that country.

According to its plans the capacity of the new oil refinery in Ceyhan would have been 15 million tonnes, and it would cost approximately USD 5 billion to build. KazMunai, Oil India, Turkey’s Calik Enerji and Italy’s Eni had been due to participate in the project.
