Azeri population will soon be 9 million

At the end of 2008 the Azeri population reached 8.73 million. Of this 49% are male and 51% female. The average age of the population is 32 years. The average life expectancy in Azerbaijan is 72.4 years, 69.7 for men and 75.1 for women.

In 2008, 152,100 children were born, an average of 417 babies per day. The most popular names for newborn boys are Ali, Murad, Mohamed, Hussein and Mihad, and for girls Fatima, Narmin, Feidan, Zohra and Nurai.
