Armenia welcomes Iran’s involvement in NABUCCO

Recently almost all the participants in the NABUCCO project have been promoting Iran as a country which should become involved in its implementation. Armenian economic expert Servak Sarukhanian has stated that Turkey in particular is lobbying for Iran’s participation.

Sarukhanian agrees that without Iran’s participation the project will not be viable. Iran has one of the biggest gas fields, transit of gas from Iran is rather convenient and the NABUCCO project can survive by using Iranian gas.

Sarukhanian thinks that there is almost no alternative to Iranian gas being transited to Europe. Importing African condensed gas by ship, as some have implamented, is expensive and risky.
