Letter to the Editor

Monday, April 13
9 April 2009

Dear Editor,

As former Editor of EAST EUROPE Magazine in the successful global effort for self-liberation of all the nations that were enslaved by Soviet imperialism and atheistic Communism, I always supported the ancient Japhetic nation of Georgia, even when that most noble cause was "politically incorrect" in the US. I cherish the fact that a devout Georgian Orthodox Christian monk sent me, via a close mutual monkly Orthodox Christian friend and colleague, sent me a small silver box containing soil from the old Kingdom of Georgia after I had written a speech given in the US Congress and published an article on it containing the important Letter of the Saintly Catholikos of the ancient Georgian Orthodox Church to the European powers condemning the Soviet Russian occupation of Georgia.

Today, independent Georgia is in danger of losing its ancient national continuities, and I pray that Georgia can find a democratic parliamentary monarchy solution, not just a temporary alternative, to its political, social, and economic problems. The Kingdom of Georgia, under its ancient Bagration Royal Family, can be a democratic parliamentary monarchy able to in due course reach the prosperous and internal harmony level of the democratic Kingdom of Norway, for example, within the European Union and NATO.. The esteemed Head of the Georgian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Catholicos Ilia, and distinguished former Georgian Foreign Minister Her Excellency Salome Zurabishvilli, have previously expressed important support for a democratic parliamentary monarchy for a restored Kingdom of Georgia.

Such a restored sovereign Kingdom of Georgia can deal as friendly equals with Russia, being able to demand rectification of the wrongful Tsarist Russian annexation of Georgia during the 19th century, as well as the wrongful Soviet Russian annexation of Georgia during the 20th century.

Long live a restored free and independent Kingdom of Georgia under the grace of the Holy Spirit, for "Christ is risen, truly risen!"

Semper fidelis (always faithful)

Dr. Jon Speller
