Giorgi Baramia: both Abkhazia and refugees are the major priority for me

Sakartvelos Respublika reports that the new head of the Tbilisi-loyal Abkhazian Autonomous Republic Government Giorgi Baramia has said, “Our work will have two clear priorities – Abkhazia and refugees. Our aim is both to return Abkhazia to Georgia and return refugees and resolve their problems.

“Of course, there are also many other issues. We will do our best to study and resolve refugees’ problems on the spot. Our work should be more mobile. We must have direct contact with these people more frequently. Our aim is to take care of our people ourselves.

“None of the refugees will be left socially unprotected. It is inadmissible to live in the kind of unendurable conditions some do. Of course, the authorities have undertaken a lot of important projects to improve the situation but it is really essential to increase the effectiveness of these.

“My first goal is to improve socio-economic conditions. I want every refugee to know that I am their servant and sitting in this study is not an end in itself. It is their right to demand my help and I am obliged to be with them,” Baramia said.

Mikheil Machavariani: we are going a very dangerous way, where only black and white are visible

Rezonansi writes that Mikheil Machavariani, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has stated while talking about President Saakashvili’s offer of Government posts to opposition leaders,: “The President’s suggestion is absolutely real and workable. The President’s offer concerned the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutors’ Office. If the opposition wants to hold posts in other Ministries the President is ready for this also. The suggestion was made to remove the mutual alienation between politicians. We are going a very dangerous way, where only black and white are visible.

“We have taken seriously Salome Zourabichvili’s request. According to the law the Ministry of Internal Affairs is non-political. If Zourabichvili wants to become a Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, she should leave politics and not participate in the rallies.”
