Do you think the authorities will take into consideration opposition demands that they should be able to veto amendments to rally-related laws?

Monday, July 20
“I don’t believe it will happen. The Government did not listen to the opposition when this was still a draft project, now when it is already law I don’t think they will be allowed to veto it. There is no chance of this happening I guess.”
Giga, student, 23

“Some very naive people will believe this is possible. However Saakashvili will talk for hours and the result will be zero as usual.”
Tina, housewife, 39

“The administration got what it wanted – the law has been passed. I don’t think the opposition in Parliament is strong enough to force the National Movement members to change their decision.”
Levan, economist, 28

“They will just ignore the opposition’s demands. This is what usually happens. I guess we should not expect some positive surprises from our Government.”
Lia, nurse, 30

“The may agree some opposition inspired amendments, ones which won’t change the basic conception, just to show that they are considering their demands.”
Tinatin, doctor, 47

“They will not do this, because this law is directed against the opposition, so why should they consider their demands?”
Robert, driver, 55

“I don’t remember a case in which the ruling party has taken into account an opposition proposal. Besides, I like the new bill about rallies and I think it is very good that the Government takes such legislation.”
Tamar, babysitter, 43

“The majority should take into consideration the opposition’s remarks and suggestions but I don’t think the President will veto this bill and I think he will explain his reasons for not doing so during the debates with opposition members.”
Kakha, mathematician, 51
