State officials assure the population that the worst period of economic problems is over and there are certain signs of the revival of Georgia’s economy. However independent analysts and the opposition challenge such assertions, warning that the country is facing a more difficult situation in Autumn.

Economic analyst Revaz Sakevarishvili thinks that the country will see problems in different sectors, including financial, industrial and others. He thinks that transfers entering the country have decreased dramatically. He highlights the possibility that existing problems are becoming more acute. He recommends that the anti-crisis plan which the Government has been elaborating should be activated quickly and in a more precise manner, although it is premature to guess how effective this plan will be.

Sakevarishvili thinks that the prognoses that the country will not be able to pay pensions and salaries in autumn are slightly exaggerated, as doing this has not only economic but also political and social significance. It is certain that the Government will do its utmost to meet its social liabilities as the consequences of not doing so could be very serious.
