Public Broadcaster issues discussed publicly

Thirteen of the sixteen candidates who submitted their applications for the position of General Director of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) have met, inviting media representatives, to discuss the fact that the Board of Directors of GPB will take the final decision on who should fill the post.

The National Movement’s preferred candidate Giorgi Chanturia, currently the interim General Director, did not attend this meeting, although the organisers, the Open Society Georgia Foundation and the Georgian Young Lawyers Association, announced that he had been invited and had promised to come. This motivated some journalists to consider that the decision of the Board is predestined and Giorgi Chanturia will be chosen.

The candidates adopted a resolution that the Board should conduct its activities in the most transparent way possible, enabling the general public and the candidates to follow open discussions and processes which would lead to the final decision being taken.
