Mehmed Merbakiev, a representative of the organisation 'Ingushetia-My Home', has stated that some Ingush want to obtain Georgian citizenship. He said that if the Georgian Foreign Ministry shows goodwill a significant number of Ingush nationals will receive Georgian citizenship. Merbakiev thinks that the Georgian side should demonstrate this goodwill or risk losing its historic role.

Merbakiev said that currently it has become difficult to live in Ingushetia due to the continual killings, kidnappings and violations going on there. He said the Russian leadership plans to unite Chechnya and Ingushetia and appoint Chechen pro Russian President Ramzan Kadirov the leader of both regions. This might cause a confrontation between Chechens and Ingush.
