Poverty in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani analysts think that out of a national population of 9 million around 1 million live below the poverty line. Since January 1, 2009 Azerbaijani has used the poverty assessment criteria applied in developing countries. This is 49 Euro and survival minimum 62 Euro.

Baku is becoming a very expensive city. 2/3 of Azeri pensioners live below the poverty line, and the country has around 1.3 million pensioners. There are no non-State pension funds in the country so far.
