Polish media outlet Polska states that the chances of the Odessa-Brody-Plock pipeline being constructed might increase if the EU grants extra funds to the Sarmatia company which was established specifically to implement this project. These funds might make it possible to finish the construction.

This project aroused the interest of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania at the energy conference in Batumi on January 14, 2009. It stipulates that at the initial stage Azeri oil will be transported to Slovakia and the Czech Republic and processed there.

Economic analysts suggest that to transit Caspian oil to Poland the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline should first start working in the opposite direction. Until now the pipeline has been used to transport Russian oil from Brody to Odessa. The more serious issue is that Azeri oil alone will not fill the pipeline and no final decisions have been made about Turkmenistan or Kazakhstan supplying the additional oil.
