Bakradze holds meetings in Brussels and Luxembourg

Speaker of Parliament Davit Bakradze met newly-elected President of the Council of Europe Herman Van Rompuy on January 28 during his visit to Belgium. According to official information the two discussed future relations between Georgian and the EU, integration into Euro-Atlantic structures, visa facilitation and a free trade agreement with the EU.

”We spoke about means of assisting our country. Each citizen of Georgia will feel the benefit of cooperation with the EU”, Bakradze stated at the end of the meeting. “I visited Georgia after the war in 2008. This is my first meeting with an official delegation of Georgia in this post. At the meeting I studied in detail the current situation regarding the occupied territories and we also spoke about security issues,” Herman Van Rompuy stated.

While meeting Chairman of the Belgian Senate Mr. Armand De Decker, Bakradze discussed the ongoing democratic reforms in Georgia, the situation in the occupied territories and Georgia's active cooperation with European structures. He stated that Belgium’s position is very important as it will be the Presidency country of the European Union in the second half of this year.

On January 29 Bakradze continued his meetings in Luxembourg. The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia said that each EU member country’s support is of high importance for Georgia.
