Kyrgyz scenario for Armenia?

Head of Armenia's Heritage Party Stepan Saparian, commenting on the events in Kyrgyzstan, has suggested that there are several precedents in the post-Soviet space of changing the country’s leadership through the use of force. The roots of this can be found in the nineties of the last century, then the so-called colour revolutions at the beginning of the new millennium. However the foreign relations factor in these revolutions is very important. Sometimes they have a clear Western orientation and sometimes a Russian one.

Saparian said that he is sure that the major reason for the overthrow of the Government of Kyrgyzstan is systemic problems, as opposition leaders were arrested and mocked in prison. This created public discontent which was used by the opposition to conduct a revolution. Any post-Soviet country which cannot overcome such difficulties is likely to see the same developments and a small spark is enough to start a fire, he said. Even Armenia is not safe from such developments, stated the opposition MP.
