Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan has stated that his country plans to extend the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway to Nakhchevan in Azerbaijan. In the past Azerbaijan proper has been connected with Nakhchevan, which is separated from the rest of the country by Armenia, through the Armenian transport infrastructure but this has now become impossible due to the state of Armenian-Azerbaijan relations.

Not only will Azerbaijan will be reconnected with Nakhchevan when the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway starts functioning but from June 17 Turkish Airlines will start flying to Nakhchevan three times a week.
