The first steps have been taken to implement the international ITGI pipeline project. The agreement to do this was signed recently in Ankara between Turkey, Greece and Italy and the work should be finished by 2017. It envisages the rehabilitation of the existing Turkey-Greece route and the construction of extension from Greece to Italy.

The pipeline should transport more than 11 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually. Intergovernmental agreement on the project was concluded in Rome in 2007. Azeri and Turkmen gas will be used and possibly that of other countries.

Turkey supports all projects initiated by different sides which go through Turkey, including NABUCCO and ITGI. The companies involved express their hope in the successful implementation of the project.
