Islamic Development Bank investing in Azerbaijan

The Islamic Development Bank plans to double its investment in the Azeri economy over the coming three years, Bank President Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Madani has stated. He specified that USD 450 will be allotted for implementing 11 projects in the Azeri economy and the bank will pay more attention to finance projects in the agricultural and electricity supply sectors which are very important for Azerbaijan’s sustainable development.

Ahmed Mohammed Ali Al-Madani expressed his concern that Azerbaijan was suffering from the consequences of occupation and supporting IDPs. He appealed to the Armenian Government to leave Azeri territory and follow the relevant UN resolutions.

The Bank has allotted more than USD 7 billion to Islamic countries which suffered during the 2009 world economic crisis. Azerbaijan and the Islamic Bank have cooperated since 1992 and more than USD half a billion has been allotted to Azerbaijan for implementing 28 projects.
