The Department of Tourism will have a new Director. Newly appointed Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Vera Kobalia has announced that candidates for this post will participate in a competition organised by the Ministry.

Kobalia said that the competition will identify the future head of the Georgian Tourism and Infrastructure Short and Long-Term Development Project, who will automatically become the Head of the Tourism Department. “We have begun a new stage of tourism development and I believe Georgia has the resources to become a prominent player in international tourism. For this reason, the Georgian Government is organising a competition for such a position for the first time,” stated Vera Kobalia.

Kobalia said that the top priorities of the project are to help tourism development, develop small air companies, develop healthcare tourism, transform the Bakhmaro and Ureki resorts into permanent resorts and reposition Georgia in the post-Soviet tourism market. She said that the purpose of the competition is to increase the popularity of Georgia as a tourist country. She added that this project will also reveal qualified and creative staff in tourism marketing and international business.

All Georgian citizens who have graduated in business administration, tourism management and economics or have 5 years work experience in these fields can participate in the competition. Kobalia added that the competition will be run objectively and the winner will not be identified on the basis of nepotism or other falsification.

After the winner is identified they will sign a memorandum with the Economic Ministry. The deadline for entries is July 31.
