Armenia is trying to get approval to prolong the use of its old nuclear power station, according to Harida Huseinova, the chairperson of the Azeri green movement, expressing the country's concern. She stated that Caucasus is a common region for all the countries and extending the life of the nuclear power station poses a threat, from an ecological point of view. She expressed her fear of radioactive contamination should there be any problems with the old power station. Analysts think that on the one hand, constructing a new nuclear power station or rehabilitating the old one is Armenia’s own domestic affair. However, a disastrous outcome could be dangerous for the entire region, including not only Armenia but Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia. These countries should request guarantees that all the technological processes will be correctly observed.
