Kazakhstan's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Serik Primbetov stated that Kazakhstan does not plan to resume pumping its oil from the Tengiz oil field through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline before 2012 and explained the reasons. It seems that Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have created a joint venture to create a new transportation trans-Caspian system and Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan capacity will be included in the infrastructure.

This will take place in 2012 and 2013.

Concerning the transportation of Kazakhstani natural gas in liquefied form, Kazakhstani President Nazarbayev stated that his country will consider this option as soon as the necessary infrastructure is ready in the Caspian and Black Seas.

In 2008-09 Kazakhstan transported 2.2 million tonnes of oil through BTC. In 2010 Azerbaijan started transporting Kazakhstan oil by rail. Turkmen oil is currently being pumped through the Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan pipeline.
