Explosion near US Embassy in Dighomi

An explosive device was detonated near the US embassy in Dighomi yesterday morning at 1:00 am. According to official information, there were two self-made explosives planted. One exploded and another was neutralized with water cannons by the Sapper of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The brick wall about 50 meters away from the Embassy territory was broken, as a result of explosion. The strong sound of the explosion could also be heard in the nearby districts.

The Director of the Information and Analytical Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Shota Utiashvili, arrived at the site of the incident. He was shown where the explosion took place and later left the location without making any comments.

Later the same day, the press service of the US Embassy made its first statement regarding the explosion. “We understand that the explosion occurred yesterday night, however, it did not occur either on the Embassy or immediate areas. The property of the US Embassy was not damaged as a result of the explosion." The statement mentioned.
