Tuesday, October 5
Ashot Manucharian, advisor to the first Armenian president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, thinks that Armenia’s importance in South Caucasus is fading. Manucharian expressed his skepticism about Russia’s role regarding of Armenia. He believes that Russia attracting Armenian citizens to leave their homeland and resettle in Russia has a negative effect on Armenia. He assessed very negatively Russian policy in this direction and thinks that Georgia has become a more attractive place of resettlement for those Armenians who leave their homeland. These and other factors are resulting in the diminishing of Armenia’s role in the region, making the country become weaker and less important, thinks Manucharian.
