What do you think about the visa free regime with Iran?

Wednesday, November 3
I remember how the Government of Georgia tried to obtain a visa free regime with the European Union… There is one particular thing we have to consider – what does Georgia actually want? I mean do we simply want something new with any country or something in particular. There is such a great difference between the EU and Iran that I can’t even express my irritation.

I wonder why we actually need a visa free regime with Iran. Does the Georgian Government consider that the Georgian people will start visiting Iran for sightseeing? No the main aim of our authorities is tourism – the more foreign tourists, the more economical welfare. That’s it.

Well, I think that this decision will not be liked by our western or American allies and partners; however, they are trying to hide their negative attitude, to my mind. I think that it was not a right step from our side, as Iran is one of the greatest problems of the world.

Our authorities have tried for a visa free regime with Europe and finally we received visa free regime with Iran… this is a paradoxical situation, in my opinion. It seems we will agree to a visa free regime with all states which also express a readiness. No matter, we have no visa free regime with the Europe, instead of we have Iran… funny.

Iran is not a very desirable country from different points of view, however everything has its pros and cons. Iranian tourists will come to Georgia and this will be positively reflected on our tourism and economic situation.
Gega, Economist, 25

It will be economically profitable for Georgia for sure, plus it will be very convenient for Georgians to visit one of the most interesting countries in the world – this is a very positive fact. I guess I will be one of the first tourists to take advantage of visa free regime and direct flights to Iran.

I think it might cause some anger in Washington. I don’t think it is wise to irritate our biggest partner and supporter. Let’s wait for the reaction from Obama’s administration on this fact.”

I don’t think we will face any security risks due to a visa free regime with Iran. We will obviously have more Iranian tourists and businessmen coming to Georgia to spend their money here.”
