EU celebrates its 15th anniversary in Georgia

A delegation of the European Union and Charge d’Affaires Mr. Francois Massoulie celebrated the 15th anniversary of its presence in Georgia by holding a concert by the Symphony Orchestra of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven at the Marjanishvili Theatre on November 5.

The idea of inviting the Orchestra of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuve belongs to well known Georgian conductor Vakhtan Machavariani and it was implemented by HE Per Eklund who recently ended his term of service in Georgia. The orchestra performed Rhapsodie Dahomeenne by August De Boeck; Concerto for violin (Soloist Givi Nasaridze) and symphony orchestra by Alexi Machavariani and Symphony no.2 by Alexander Borodin (Gedevanishvili). The audience enjoyed the high professionalism of musicians showing masterly skills in performing complicated pieces of music.

The University Symphony Orchestra (USO) of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium (founded in1425) was established in 1962. Since then, USO has rapidly grown to a fully-fledged symphony orchestra presently composed of more than 70 musicians, students from around the world.

The Orchestra performed under its Belgian conductor Edmond Saveniers.
