Minister Paying an Official Visit to Canada

Monday, December 20
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini is paying an official visit to Canada.

In the scope of the visit, the Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between MES and Canadian Footprints Recruiting Incorporation – Organization for Teachers’ Employment.

Footprints Recruiting Incorporation has been cooperating with MES since March 2010 in the frame of the project Teach And Learn With Georgia that is designed to recruit English Language Teachers to Georgia.

According to the announcement of Shashkini, the number of foreign teachers will increase by 2011 to around 1,500 according to the Memorandum. This will support schoolchildren to better learn the English language and, at the same time, teachers will have opportunity to improve upon their qualifications.

In order to strengthen English language teaching, MES has been implementing the project Teach and Learn with Georgia since July 2010 and it is acknowledged as one of the successful reforms in the Georgian education system. The project envisages recruiting 1,000 volunteer teachers by the end of the year. The number of teachers will amount to 1,500 in 2011.

English language teachers are carrying out their activities in the Public Schools of Adjara, Guria, Samegrelo, Imereti, Rustavi and Tbilisi.

They have already been integrated in Georgian society. Teachers live with local families free of charge. After finishing the project, volunteer teachers will serve as the Goodwill Ambassadors of Georgia across the world.
