Armenian nalayst Levon Ofsepian thinks that Turkish claims to set up a military base in Nakhchevan (autonomous republic of Nakhchevan is a part of Azerbaijan separated from the mainland by Armenia’s territory) is a very serious issue, however it is not yet known whether the base will be a land base or an air base. Ofsepian also thinks that no matter how serious Turkish claims may be, it could not make any moves without considering the opinions of the other regional players such as Russia and Iran. “I do not think Russia and Iran will be indifferent about this issue,” he said.

Armenian military analyst Artsrun Ovanisian suggests that any problem concerning Nakhchevan should be decided between Turkey and Russia, particularly when it concerns the construction of Turkish military bases.
