Iran’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan stated that his country is ready to participate in the NABUCCO project supplying it with a significant amount of natural gas. However Tehran does not support the construction of the trans-Caspian gas pipeline, primarily because of the ecological problems and secondly according to Iran the status of Caspian Sea is not yet clear since its division has not yet been finalised. Turkmenistan thinks that laying a gas pipeline on the Caspian Sea bed is a personal matter of two countries Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan as the pipe would only lie in the territorial waters of those two countries. Iran however has different ideas and opposes the projects.
