New rule for enrolling first graders

Tuesday, February 23
The Ministry of Education and Science in Georgia will start the registration of first graders on March 1 and the process will run through to May 15, according to the Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkin.

From 2011, the rules for enrolling first-graders in schools will change; the process will become more transparent and accessible to all. For the first time, a concrete timeframe has been set for the registration of first graders, which parents should adhere to. Early or late applications will not be accepted.

According to the Ministry, from March 1 to March 15 registration will start for those first graders whose parents teach at the school where they will study or whose siblings study in the selected school. For all other first graders the registration process will start on March 15 and end on May 15.

To obtain a personal computer for first grade pupils, parents must apply to the selected school on time and register their children no later than May 15.
