Minister of Education and Science in Georgia, Dimitri Shashkin and Director of the National Centre for Teacher Professional Development, Ghia Mamulashvili held a briefing on the selection process for public school principals.

Registration of applicants for the position of school principals has already started and will last until March 20. Any person with a high level degree is eligible to apply. The process will be in two parts. Firstly the applicants will be required to sit a special computer designed test; those who pass the test will be invited for the interview.

In order to enhance the leaning quality at schools and continually improve the general education system, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia is implementing a number of reforms. Important new aspects have been introduced to support the professional development of personnel. For example a new standard for school principals was adopted defining the knowledge and skills required for the role and identifying the professional values and responsibilities of successful school principals.

The aim of the selection procedure is to hire those professionals that meet the requirements of the public school principals’ standards and are capable of managing and developing a school by applying modern standards.
