Renowned Georgian Physicist gives seminar

Giorgi Dvali, a Georgian Scientist working at CERN in Switzerland held a seminar on particle physics and cosmology at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia for physics teachers. First Deputy Minister Koka Sepherteladze attended the seminar.

Giorgi Dvali obtained his first degree in Tbilisi; he is currently professor of Theoretical Physics at New York University and Munich University. In 2001 Dvali was awarded the New York Mayor’s special prize for his remarkable achievements in Science and Technology.

The seminar was a follow up to the internship in particle physics at the CERN research laboratory attended by 14 Georgian physics teachers during which they learnt about the ongoing research and experiments at the CERN facility.

The Ministry’s National Centre for Teachers’ Professional Development plans to invite other scientists from CERN. The series of seminars in different scientific fields will continue in order to enhance teachers’ professional development.
