The issue of Armenia's free trade zone in the CIS is quite complicated. The initiative has become rather popular between CIS countries but Armenia faces difficulties in joining it and it is in isolation. It has no land connections with other CIS countries apart from Azerbaijan with whom it has no relations at all. Armenian officials and MPs express their concern over the issue, realizing that in the near future the project could not be realized. To compensate somehow Armenia has tried and is planning free economic zones inside the country. However some economists still think that Armenia should join free trade zones in CIS countries because connections could be established through air. The agreement of a free trade regime of CIS countries should be signed later this year in May. Free trade agreements exist in many regions including North America, Europe, the Baltics and Australasia.
