Professor Ruben Melkonian of Yerevan state university stated on March 22 that Turkey's recent activity in the region is not in the Armenian interest. According to the professor, Turkey is trying to be mediator between the west and east thus increasing its influence in both directions, either in the Arab world or EU. He considers this to be a dangerous development for Armenia. He also mentioned that Turkey has been trying its best to become regional leader for the Caucasus, Balkans, Middle East and North Africa. According to him, Turkey is attempting to gain the sympathy of Arab people thus making it attractive to increase its role as a mediator in regulating conflicts.
