Friday, April 1
“Lots of people suffer from violations in Georgia nowadays. There are so many cases of violations within the individual state or private agencies, educational institutions or the particular families that I can’t simply select the most burning ones. I think Georgian legislation needs serious improvements on people’s benefits not the state officials…”

“Well, I think that human rights are still violated in the country. Mostly, all people’s rights are being violated who work, as the salaries are minimal and demands from the leadership are very high. No one in the authorities tries to make amendments in the labour code. I think that it is one of the most serious violations of rights.”
Tamar, Cashier, 36

“I think that prisoners rights are very much violated, my relative is in prison and even we do not have a chance sometimes to visit him. At the same time, there is a very high risk of dangerous disease.”
Gia, Driver, 41

“I can’t imagine a country, where all citizens’ rights are protected. To my mind, compared to former years, the situation has significantly improved in the country and it is obvious, there are a lot of foreign and local NGOs, which are actively working on the issue. Thus, I think that, of course, there are some cases of human rights violation, however, there is nothing unusual in this.”
Beka, Businessman, 38

“Women are the most degraded part of the Georgian society. There are a lot of stigmas and stereotypes and despite the attempts of some human rights groups to tackle this issue; it still remains an acute problem. Every fifth Georgian woman is a victim of domestic violence – this speaks for itself.”
Nana, journalist, 30

“Elderly people’s rights are not defended, because they have a miserable pension. It is impossible to have a dignified life with a monthly 80 GEL pension. It is ridiculous. Something must be done about it.
Natia, lawyer, 26

“I heard reports about the abuse of prisoners’ rights in Georgian prisons. It is absolutely unacceptable. They have a right to have normal lives inside the prison, because they are humans like any of us, no matter what kind of crimes they have done.”
