Bakradze visits Bolnisi region

Monday, April 4
On March 31 David Bakradze, the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia visited the Bolnisi region and observed the repair works of the Kazreti trunk canal. According to the new project, the headquarters of the canal is being constructed in the gorge of Mashavera river, two kilometers from Kazreti copper mine, and will guarantee the availability of clean irrigation water to the population. "We plan to allocate more money for agriculture, the rural economy, for assistance of the rural residents this year and in the future as well. This canal, which will provide the opportunity to receive high-quality water and having a rich harvest to more than 1500 families, will determine their welfare”, - David Bakradze stated. .According to the statement of the Chairman of the Parliament, the state will implement the same projects for improvement of the living conditions of the local population and for the development of the agricultural sector in every region, district and village.

The rehabilitation works of Kazreti canal commenced two months ago and it will be finished at the end of June. As a result of the rehabilitation works on the canal up to 4 000 hectares of land will be watered (that is 1000 hectares more than before). The irrigation water in the rehabilitated canal will be protected from pollution and chemical admixtures.

The Chairman of the Parliament held the meeting with the local population at the Bolnisi Culture Center and spoke regarding the actual issues.

Speaking about the socio-economic processes, David Bakradze noted that the global economic crisis has not bypassed Georgia and the population turned to be in hard conditions.

David Bakradze thanked the population for their patience "The difficulties and problems will exist, however, it could be said that the country has already overcome the peak of the hardships and from this year we expect that economic growth will return to the indicators of 2007 and the beginning of the 2008 year. If we sustain the political stability and economic growth, in 4-5 years standards of living in Georgia will be improved and the per capita income will increase 2 and 2.5 fold”,- the Chairman of the Parliament stated.

As Bakradze noted, the most acute problems have been unemployment, price increases and inflation, which depends on the world market and no single government can stop it.

According to Bakradze, despite the fact that Georgia is not rich with its own resources, there are ways to alleviate the impact of inflation and price increases for the population. The government has been finding these ways. "Growth of our own production, intensive support of agricultural development, are one of the major priorities of the state that will diminish the impact of price increases”,- the Chairman of the Parliament stated.
